EU requirements for your product
A product must meet all relevant EU directives before it can be marketed in the EU. The Radio and Teleterminal (R&TTE) Directive is applicable to radio products. One of four vital, mandatory requirement in the R&TTE Directive is effective utilization of the radio spectrum. This is usually met by carrying out radio testing in accordance with the harmonized ETSI standards. Typical parameters in radio testing are:
- Output from the transmitter
- Frequency range
- Frequency accuracy
- Undesirable radiated and/or cable-borne emissions
- Neighbouring channel effect
- Power density
Access to the North American market...
We live in a global market and it is natural – not to say essential – for us to launch our products also on many different markets world-wide. And North America is one of the most attractive markets. The USA and Canada have their own standards and demands on radio transmitters, some of which differ from those in the EU. At Intertek, we can carry out tests and certification. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allows a very few testing agencies to act on their behalf. Intertek is one these test agencies to be appointed Telecommunication Certification Bodies (TCBs) and can thus certify radio transmitters in a much more convenient and quicker manner than going through the FCC authority.
... and the rest of the world
Many countries outside the EU still have their own requirements on certification and type approval for radio transmitters, and an accredited test report from a well-known test agency is usually required as a basis for such applications. It is then beneficial to have a test report from a well-known test agency such as Intertek. Test reports in accordance with EU or US standards are usually accepted, but there are also national standards.
